The company was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser and was initially focused on selling the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker at fairs and trade shows in a Bread Truck. The Salt 1 knife earned a devoted following, but it lacked some design improvements of the Delica 4, so Spyderco revamped the design to create the Salt 2. This new model combines the features of the Delica 4 Lightweight with the corrosion-resistant advantages of H-1 steel. The Salt 2 features improved ergonomics, a high-traction Bi-Directional Texturing pattern on the handle, and a black-coated titanium pocket clip that supports left or right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry. The handle components are molded from solid FRN and fitted with threaded stainless steel inserts. All other metal hardware on the Salt 2 is made from non-rusting alloys.

The Salt 2 features a 0.55" Round Hole Diameter and a 3" Blade, with an overall length of 7.25". It has a Back Lock, FRN Handle, and various serrations. It is available in different models, including the Salt 2 Wharncliffe, Pacific Salt 2, Spydiechef, and Tusk.
